Appointments

View all the information you need about appointments here.

All consultations are by appointment. To make an appointment please ring 01484 531786 for the Paddock branch and 01484 653326 for the Longwood branch. You can also use the online appointment system to book an appointment or come in person to make an appointment.

At busy times the Doctor of your choice may not be available immediately and you may then be advised to see another Doctor in the Practice. There is an on-call Doctor available each day who has a number of appointments set aside each day for urgent problems - if your problem is urgent please notify the receptionist.

As far as possible the Doctor will attempt to keep to your appointment time. There are, however, some factors (e.g. emergency visits or telephone calls) which may cause delays. Please be understanding if the surgery is running late. Appointments are normally for 10 minutes; they are intended for one person only.

If you cannot keep your appointment please tell us as soon as possible. Missed appointments are an endless source of frustration and reduce our ability to provide an efficient service. People who persist in missing appointments may be asked to find another General Practitioner.

Note: Please remember only to visit Longwood surgery if you are registered there as the Doctor can only consult efficiently and safely if he has access to your notes.

Extended Access evening and weekend appointments now available!
We provide extended hours weekly, which take place on a Monday (this will take place on a different day when the Monday is a Bank Holiday). These appointments are with GP, Practice Nurse, HCA or the Pharmacist and can be telephone or face to face.

Patients can now see a local GP, Physio and Phlebotomy (blood taker) for routine appointments on weekday evenings and at weekends. Pre-bookable and on-the-day appointments are available between 6:30pm and 8:30pm each weekday, with additional slots available on Saturdays and Sundays between 8:45am and 5:15pm.

GP, Physio and Phlebotomy appointments are available for any Greater Huddersfield patient in the Primary Care Centre Hub at HRI and some physio appointments are available at other sites as well.

How to book an evening appointment via the Hub:
You can book an evening or weekend appointment by ringing the practice on 01484 531786. If you need to book an appointment when the practice is closed then you can ring the free NHS 111 phone line out of normal working hours and they will book an appointment for you if appropriate.

Emergencies
Emergencies such as heart attacks, sudden collapses, severe haemorrhage, chest pains and/or shortness of breath constitute an emergency and require immediate attention. Please ring 999 and request an ambulance.

Video Recordings
From time to time one of the Doctors needs to video a surgery for training purposes. These recordings are only seen by one or two Doctors and are then destroyed. You may be asked to give your consent to such recordings. You are under no obligation to do so but if you do you will be helping in the training of a future generation of GPs.

Medical Students
We are involved in training third and fourth year medical students from the University Of Leeds. They are attached to the Practice for short periods as part of their training. They usually observe consultations but you may be asked to talk to them before seeing the Doctor. They cannot give any treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

View below some frequently asked questions about appointments ...

How long are appointments?

Appointments are usually around 10 minutes long. However, if you need to see the doctor for 2 separate issues please book 2 appointment slots. Allowing the clinician to assess both problems in good time.

Can I choose which doctor I see?

Yes, you can choose which doctor you wish to see, however in the event of holidays and sickness doctor availability is somewhat limited. If a doctor has started treating you it is best to remain with that doctor for a continuing problem.

What should I do if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you can no longer make your appointment please contact the surgery as soon as possible so appointment slots can be free for other patients to book into. *Please note it  is the responsibility of the patient to keep their appointment and multiple DNA's can lead to being removed from the patient list due to wasting clinical time. Thank you for your understanding.

Do you offer telephone appointments?

If you consider that a telephone appointment would be more appropriate we can offer this for you, if you would prefer this method of appointment please ask our receptionist team for this service.
